Its about community organizing

I don't want to interject myself here, but I previously asked that staffer off camera how the Obama campaign could be used as a model for other community organizing efforts. (aka, how can this be used in the deaf community?) The Obama campaign has heavily borrowed from other organizing efforts. (The slogan 'Yes we can' is a repackaged 'si se puede' from the iconic Caesar Chavez labor rights movement) But he has also very successfully repackaged it with a technological, internet-based grassroots effort.

So what we are looking at here is not just how Obama is looking at helping you, but the campaign is letting people themselves can get involved. And how we can use these tools and knowledge as deaf people to empower ourselves...

'Yes we can' doesn't mean go vote for Obama after all..

We have to remmy that this Obama campaign volunteer do not

We have to remmy that this Obama campaign volunteer do not reflect the entire Obama campaign staff.

Paternalism is one of the real worst offense to the deaf community in general.

NOT all the deaf people victimized of poverty, inaccessibility, lack of empowerment and other things.

Too bad, there is no "top" deaf people working in the Obama campaign to educate and mobilize the Obama campaign to reel in the deaf votes.

RLM

Seems to me that maybe he

Seems to me that maybe he has no experience with Deaf culture, but that possibly he has not formed a real opinion of the Deaf community yet. That looks better to me than McCain. Maybe there's a chance to educate a more "open mind"?

Same old.

As soon as the guy started comparing the deaf community with poor communities I turned it off. "There are barriers everywhere" means "I don't know jack about the barriers facing the deaf community." I voted for Obama but don't expect to see the world change for deaf people if he wins.

Obama Support for Deaf, Part 2

He is not saying anything new that I haven't heard before. It sounds like deaf culture is new to Obama. So... what is his support for deaf communication? Oh, you mean, he is looking for YOUR support/votes...?
