Two Deaf Schools to Merge

The membership of Metro Deaf School (MDS) and Minnesota North Star Academy (MNSA) voted on December 16 to approve a merger between the schools. This would provide a combined K-12 school with 100 students. The merger still has more hurdles to overcome including approval by the Minnesota Department of Education. The plan is to have Minnesota North Star Academy move into the Metro Deaf School building after construction is done on their building. You can hear more here from the presidents of both boards, from Volunteers of America, the sponsor of the schools, and additional information about the building construction plans.

Merger is a good idea!

I am thrilled about the merge. It should be successful for both of schools. MDS and MNSA is a good charter school. Some of you said why not send them to MSAD, but some parents pefer their kids to stay near them so they can monitor their grades. Than being like hour away and don't know how my kid is doing. Everybody have different opinions about schools.
