Wisc. Interpreter Licensure Bill

DPI has their own

DPI has their own educational interpreter licensure already in place. Interpreters who have an EIPA certification will be licensed under DPI. As for the court interpreters, they require certified interpreters (SC:L strongly preferred). For interpreters who do not have a SC:L, but has a national certification recognized by RID will need to undergo a training by Wisconsin Supreme Court (I think they have a department that oversees all foreign language interpreters and do have a listing of certified ASL interpreters who qualify for court interpreting.)

There is a concern with the waiver for state court interpreter and DPI. I think that state court interpreters need to be certified along with the rest in the bill. Why is it that you (Joe) and others are ok with that bill that waives state court and DPI? Can you answer that?
