Yesterday, the RID Committee Chairperson for the Educational Interpreting Task Force, Susan Brown, finally replied to my concerns (originally outlined in ASL here and in English here). I'd been waiting for several days, so I was glad to hear from her - but she asked me to wait until, er, AFTER the vote to clarify the answers to my questions. (SMALL CORRECTION: After the vote is completed - the vote is online and will complete on April 12th, 2010.)

The Commission of Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing Minnesotans (MCDHH) with the production assistance of St. Paul Neighborhood Network, has produced five Public service announcement videos to talk about the U.S. Census and the importance of Deaf, DeafBlind and Hard of Hearing people being counted. As a Deaf man and a concerned American, it's probably normal for me to feel concern for those Deaf, Deaf-blind and hard-of-hearing Haitians who survived the earthquake. While the Deaf community has its tightness and connectivity to support it in times of stress, often we lose out during emergencies due to lack of communication about supplies and services. Examples where Deaf people received limited information due to a lack of captioned emergency broadcasts are everywhere in the U.S., for example.
